A U.S. House of Representatives bill seeks to award the hockey team that defeated the Soviet Union team during at the 1980 Winter Olympics.

The Miracle on Ice bill calls for the awarding of three medals. One of them would be on display at the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame in Stauber's congressional district in Eveleth, Minnesota. The others are the Olympic Center in Lake Placid and the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Museum in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Legendary tennis player and women’s rights advocate Billie Jean King became the first individual female athlete to be awarded the Congressional Gold Medal, she announced in an Instagram post on Friday.

Upon President Joe Biden signing the award into legislation, Billie Jean King became the first individual woman athlete to receive the Congressional Gold Medal.

Billie Jean King has been awarded the Congressional Gold Medal, the United States Tennis Association said on Friday, becoming the first individual female athlete to receive the honour.

A bill was introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives on Tuesday to award Congressional Gold Medals to the "Miracle on Ice" Olympic hockey team that defeated the heavily favored Soviet Union in Lake Placid during the 1980 Olympics.

King also became the sixth athlete to win both the Presidential Medal of Freedom and the Congressional Gold Medal.
