The system is likely to move in a west-northwesterly direction for another 24 hours and thereafter take a northwesterly direction till it crosses the coast on the night of October 24.

Cyclone Dana is expected to make landfall in West Bengal and Odisha on Thursday, forcing schools to close and beaches to evacuate ahead of Diwali and Kali Puja.

As Odisha and West Bengal are bracing for a severe cyclonic storm, governments of both states have decided to evacuate people and close educational institutions in vulnerable areas.

Cyclone Dana, expected to make landfall between Odisha and West Bengal on October 24, has prompted the closure of schools in 14 districts of Odisha and several in West Bengal. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued warnings of heavy rainfall and wind speeds of up to 120 km/h in the coastal areas.

A cyclonic circulation over the North Andaman Sea is likely to intensify into a cyclonic storm and reach the Odisha-West Bengal coasts by October 24.

Odisha says it is “fully prepared” to face the cyclone, West Bengal also predicted to receive very heavy rainfall.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of Cyclone Dana's imminent arrival in Odisha, predicting heavy rainfall and strong winds from October 23 to 25. With the cyclone's landfall expected between Puri and Sagar Island,
