Hughes Fire initially started 10:53 a.m. Jan. 22 in Los Angeles County. It has burned 10,425 acres after being active for six days. By Tuesday morning, the fire crew succeeded in containing 98% of the wildfire. The cause is, however, still being investigated.

Firefighters made progress on the more than 10,000-acre Hughes Fire Friday, which sent thousands fleeing after sparking near the Los Angeles County community of Castaic a day earlier.

Recent wildfires not only brought lose and heartache to the residents of the Los Angeles area, they also scorched state, city and county politics. While the initial voting in the races for California governor and Los Angeles mayor is more than a year away memories of how politicians dealt with the fires and its aftermath will linger.

Palisades Fire initially started 10:30 a.m. Jan. 7 in Los Angeles County. It has burned 23,448 acres after being active for 20 days. A crew of 1,043 firefighters has been working on site and they managed to contain 94% of the fire by Monday afternoon. The blaze's cause remains under investigation.

As the California wildfires continue to burn, there is hope to soon rebuild as the two largest fires are both close to full containment.

Jan. 28 A new wildfire was reported today at 4:19 p.m. in Los Angeles County. The wildfire has been burning on private land. Currently, there is no data indicating the containment progress of the fire and its cause has yet to be determined.
