The depression over the Bay of Bengal now lies 730 km southeast of Paradip and is likely to make a landfall between Odisha's Puri and West Bengal's Sagar Island by Thursday

The IMD predicted that a low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal may intensify into Cyclone Dana by October 23, with landfall anticipated between Puri in Odisha and Sagar Island in West Bengal on October 24.

The depression will further intensify into a cyclonic storm by October 23 and cross north Odisha and southern West Bengal coasts between Puri and Sagar Island in the early morning hours of October 25 as a severe cyclonic storm with a wind speed of 100-110 kmph,

West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee announced school closures from October 23 to 26 in nine districts due to Cyclone Dana. Relief materials are stocked, and cyclone shelters are prepared. A severe cyclonic storm is expected to impact the eastern coast on October 24.

The weather authority stated that Cyclone Dana is expected to bring extremely heavy rainfall to Odisha and West Bengal on October 24 and 25, with heavy rainfall continuing in both states through Friday.

The India Meteorological Department said in its forecast, "…the system is very likely to cross north Odisha and West Bengal coasts between Puri and Sagar Island during the night of October 24 and early morning October 25 as a severe cyclonic storm with a wind speed of 100-110 kmph with gusting 120 kmph.
