The Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department is in the third day of an outage of its computer-aided dispatch system in its vehicles, leaving deputies to resort to old methods as they respond to calls.

It’s not clear how long it will take to fix the problem, but in the meantime deputies and dispatchers must use radios instead of patrol car computers.

Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department officials first learned about the problem around 8 p.m. Tuesday, when deputies at several sheriff's stations were unable to log in to the mobile computers in their patrol cars,

The LASD said its computer-aided dispatch program — known as the CAD — was “not allowing personnel to log on with the new year, making the CAD inoperable.”
