Firefly’s Blue Ghost Lander Bids Farewell to Earth on Its Way to the Moon
The Blue Ghost mission launched on Wednesday, January 15, on board a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket and is currently around halfway through its journey to the Moon. The mission, named “Ghost Riders in the Sky,” will spend around 16 days in lunar orbit before attempting a soft touchdown on the lunar surface.

"LEXI will be calibrated daily until we land on the Moon. The payload will then capture a series of X-ray images to study the interaction of solar wind and the Earth's magnetic field that drives geomagnetic disturbances and storms on our home planet," the company said.

“Now four weeks into the mission, Blue Ghost has downlinked more than 15 GB of data, including NASA science data, from record-breaking GNSS signals to magnetic field measurements, that is already unlocking insights for the future of space exploration,” Firefly Aerospace wrote in an update.
