Formula 1 is to drop the award of a bonus point for fastest lap from the 2025 season. The decision, made by the world motorsports council of governing body the FIA, comes in the wake of a controversy over RB’s Daniel Ricciardo taking the point away from title contender Lando Norris in the last race in Singapore.

There will no longer be a point awarded to the driver who drove the fastest race lap from 2025 season onwards. This was announced by the FIA in response to the World Motor Sport Council. Formula 1 teams will now also have to allow at least two rookies to drive free practice instead of one.
