An internal email reviewed by WIRED calls DOGE staff's access to federal payments systems “the single biggest insider threat risk the Bureau of the Fiscal Service has ever faced.”

The assessment, done by the contractor Booz Allen, came before Treasury formally tapped an ally of Elon Musk to oversee the payment system.

A DOGE staffer who resigned over racist posts was rehired by Musk on Friday. Another was reportedly fired from a past job for leaking company secrets.

Wired is reporting that an internal government threat assessment team has determined that staffers working for Elon Musk's Department of Government Efficiency should be considered an "insider threat" to sensitive government data.
