A 225-meter-wide crater quietly formed on the moon in 2024, only to be discovered months later in orbital images. The event, rare on a human timescale, is now drawing attention for what it reveals about ongoing impact risks on the lunar surface.
NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope has found a previously unknown moon orbiting Uranus. NASA announced the discovery on Tuesday, adding that the moon was first spotted on Feb. 2. Scientists estimate that the newly discovered moon is about six miles in diameter.
NASA discovered the impact while reviewing images from its Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter.
