Dick Frank unintentionally changed something in Windows 7 so that each window, rather than each application, gets its own taskbar icon. That’s too many icons.

Until Windows 7 came along, it was challenging at best to control what did and didn’t appear in the System Tray. It wasn’t uncommon to see a dozen or more icons littered down there.

Microsoft's slow roll of icon updates in Windows 10 is marching on. The latest icon to get the update treatment is for the Microsoft Store, which has a new look rolling out to Windows Insiders.
