"It's a muscle that kind of clamps down on my sciatic nerve, and it was shooting down my leg," the actress said during an appearance on 'The Drew Barrymore Show'

Andie MacDowell is feeling grateful she never had to have the hip replacement surgery she was anticipating. The Groundhog Day actress opened up about a painful diagnosis she recently received and the "miracle" that a little physical therapy has done for her.

I thought I was gonna have to have hip replacement. Thank God my hips are fine,” MacDowell shared of her diagnosis.

Piriformis syndrome is a rare neuromuscular condition that happens when the piriformis muscle in the butt presses on the sciatic nerve, according to the Genetic and Rare Diseases Information Center (GARD).

On "The Drew Barrymore Show," MacDowell said she now lives in a South Carolina community with "people my age" and delved into recent health problems.
