The low pressure area over the Bay of Bengal on Monday intensified and is likely to turn into a cyclonic storm by October 23 which will cross between Puri in Odisha and Sagar isla

Bracing for a severe cyclonic storm, the Odisha and West Bengal governments have started evacuating people from coastal districts to relief camps. Both governments have also decided to close educational institutions in vulnerable areas.

The India Meteorological Department said in its forecast, "…the system is very likely to cross north Odisha and West Bengal coasts between Puri and Sagar Island during the night of October 24 and early morning October 25 as a severe cyclonic storm with a wind speed of 100-110 kmph with gusting 120 kmph.

Cyclone Dana is likely to hit Odisha coast on October 24 In the wake of the heavy rainfall, the Odisha government urged tourists not to visit holy town Puri until the cyclone makes landfall.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast significant weather disturbances as Cyclone Dana is set to make landfall on October 24, bringing heavy rainfall across multiple regions.

Odisha says it is “fully prepared” to face the cyclone, West Bengal also predicted to receive very heavy rainfall.
