The National Weather Service has issued its first Extreme Cold Watch for the region. The watch will go into effect Monday, Jan. 20, at 1 a.m. and will remain in effect until Wednesday, Jan. 22, at 10 a.m.

The southern row of counties are under an extreme cold watch for dangerously cold wind chills expected late Sunday to Wednesday morning. During that time period wind chills are expected to be as cold as 25 degrees below zero. This is the first issuance in Michigan of the new extreme cold watch.

The National Weather Service has placed Columbus and central Ohio under an extreme cold watch from 1 a.m. Monday to 10 a.m. Wednesday, warning that wind chills will drop temperatures into single-digit highs and nighttime temperatures could plummet as low as 15-25 degrees below zero.
