( NewsNation) — For the first time, the parent company of Barbie released a Diwali-themed doll to recognize the upcoming Hindu holiday — and sold out online in less than 24 hours.

In a first, toy manufacturing giant Mattel has released a new Barbie to help celebrate one of the largest Indian festivals of the year, Diwali. The Barbie Signature Diwali doll has been unveiled to represent the “fashion-forward modern Indian woman of today”.

In celebration of the five-day Hindu festival of lights known as Diwali, Mattel has lit up the Barbie universe with its first-ever Diwali doll. The company’s launch of the doll comes a few weeks ahead of the holiday’s start in late October.

The special Barbie Diwali doll has been dressed by Indian designer Anita Dongre, who has previously made outfits for Beyoncé and Kate Middleton, to name a few.

The Diwali doll, created in collaboration with fashion designer Anita Dongre, features traditional elements and will cost $40.

The doll will feature traditional Indian elements, including a cropped top, or choli; a floral vest known as a koti; and a patterned, ankle-length skirt called a lehenga.

The new Barbie doll is all set to enhance the grand Diwali celebrations across the world, especially in India.
