The Trump administration’s effort to cut back on federal funding for the National Institute of Health for research programs at universities and medical systems has been blocked nationwide.

U.S. District Judge George A. O’Toole Jr. said the pause would continue until he rules on a preliminary injunction.

Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine) slammed the National Institutes of Health’s decision to slash billions of dollars in “indirect” costs for biomedical research funding, calling the move mandated by the Trump administration “devastating” and a “poorly conceived directive.”
