A federal judge slammed special counsel Jack Smith on Tuesday and accused his office of seeking to deny former co-defendants of President Trump a fair trial by releasing a final report on the classified documents case.

"You repeatedly described investigations and prosecutions of Mr. Trump, Trump as a witch hunt, and you have echoed his calls for investigating and prosecuting his political opponents. This flies in the face of evidence," he said.

The first volume of special counsel Jack Smith's report on the 2020 election case against President Trump was released last week.
It was not immediately clear which prosecutors were affected by the order, or how many who worked on the investigations into Trump remained with the department.
The action was the latest effort to turn the table on criminal investigations that for years shadowed Trump, resulting in separate indictments that never went to trial and were ultimately abandoned. V
Judge Aileen M. Cannon said prosecutors should not be allowed to share the report outside the Justice Department, adding that it contained information that had not been made public.
