It’s leaf-peeping season across big swathes of the US, and there are plenty of lesser-known spots known for nature’s fiery autumn displays

The weekend of Oct. 4 to Oct. 6 is set to be the “best weekend for the most northern tier of New England leaf peeping,” Yankee added.

Towns like Stowe, Vermont, and North Conway, N.H., receive (well-deserved) accolades each fall season for their incredible fall foliage and many fall activities. But there are plenty of other towns across the region brimming with color and fun.

You've likely noticed some spotty color even around the Boston area and throughout southern New England, particularly in the low-lying areas. The best color right now is in the highest elevations of the Green and White Mountains as well as the northern crown of Maine.

Isolated regions in the northern end of New England that saw moderate colors could struggle with dry, warmer temperatures, according to Yankee Magazine’s weekly fall foliage update. Some of these "early bright colors browned and are on the ground,” the magazine wrote.
