Social media users have suggested there is something wrong with the Pentel pens provided by Maricopa elections officials and that they are part of a plot to rig the Arizona primary Aug. 2.

Richer said the county switched from Sharpies to Pentel pens "after many tests" because while both have quick-drying ink, the Pentel pens cause less bleed-through on ballot paper.

The Pentel pens, she said, "can insert votes that appear like a felt tip pens." Poll workers at two polling station reported that voters began taking the government-issued pens after Golec's Tweet.
