Motorists in Glasgow now face a £100 fine for parking on pavements as a ban comes into force. The new rules are designed to protect pedestrians, especially people in wheelchairs and those pushing buggies, who could be forced onto the road by vehicles on the pavement.

All parking fines in Glasgow, which will include fines for pavement parking, double parking and drop kerb parking, are £100, reduced to £50 if paid within fourteen days.

Councillor Angus Millar, the city's transport convener, warned pavement parking was creating a "road safety hazard”. He stressed it was causing a "significant issue" with some pedestrians forced onto the road to continue with their journey.

All parking fines in Glasgow are £100 but reduced to £50 if drivers pay up within 14 days. Edinburgh was the first city in Scotland to enforce a ban on pavement parking in January 2024. Highland Council followed suit in February. Glasgow City Council had previously said IT issues had delayed a roll-out of the ban.

"You MUST NOT park partially or wholly on the pavement in London, and should not do so elsewhere unless signs permit it. Parking on the pavement can obstruct and seriously inconvenience pedestrians, people in wheelchairs or with visual impairments and people with prams or pushchairs."
