SeaD Consulting, the same company that has been making headlines for its efforts to uncover seafood fraud at restaurants and festivals across the Gulf Coast, announced in a news release Thursday that it tested shrimp dishes at 24 randomly selected restaurants in the Lafayette area from Feb. 10-13.

According to a recent study by SEAD Consulting, 33% of sampled restaurants in Lafayette are serving farm-raised imported shrimp instead of local wild-caught.

Louisiana state law says that if a restaurant is serving imported crawfish or shrimp, the menu must note the country of origin and clearly state the word "imported."
