The National Weather Service in Huntsville has issued a winter weather advisory for all of its north Alabama counties. It will be in effect until 7 p.m. Monday. The weather service said up to 1 inch of snow will be possible, and any leftover rainfall could freeze on roads, making for dangerous driving conditions.

Due to the vagaries of weather in Alabama in winter, winter precipitation may happen in the far reaches of northern part of the state − or there may be a mix of cold rain and snow flurries as far south as the Highway 80 corridor.

The six- to 10-day temperature outlook from NOAA’s Climate Prediction Center (shown at the top of this post) is forecasting a 80-90 percent probability that a good part of Alabama will have below-average temperatures from Jan. 6-10 (next Monday-Friday).
