Anthropic, a high-flying competitor to OpenAI, announced today that it has taught its AI model Claude to do a range of things on a computer, including search the web, open applications, and input text using the mouse and keyboard.

Claude 3.5 Sonnet is available as a beta for developers to try out now. It can view a screen, move a cursor, click buttons, and even input text. It's not perfect, but neither are you!

Anthropic says it is teaching its Claude AI model to perform general computing tasks based on prompts. In demonstration videos, the model is shown controlling the cursor of a computer to conduct research for an outing on the town, searching the web for places to visit near the user’s home and even adding an itinerary to their desktop calendar.
