Josh Brolin has reacted to the news that Denis Villeneuve didn't secure a Best Director Oscar nomination for Dune 2. The star, who plays Gurney Halleck in the franchise, previously said that he'd quit acting if Villeneuve wasn't nominated,

When Denis Villeneuve was originally announced to be directing Dune: Part One, it was clear he was the perfect fit, and what he gave us was a film we had never seen the likes of before. The Academy took notice,

Dune: Part Two star Josh Brolin chided the Academy for not nominating director Denis Villeneuve for his acclaimed work on the blockbuster sci-fi sequel. Brolin took to his Instagram stories to point out that “it makes no sense” that Villeneuve was snubbed for best director given the film racking up five nominations — including best picture.

In truth, it’s a welcome surprise to see Coralie Fargeat receiving a nod, considering horror is so often grouped alongside sci-fi in the 'not really very serious films' category (the fact The Substance is the only 'horror' anywhere in sight is proof of that in itself), but outside of the French auteur, the rest of the list is rather predictable.
