Nov 15, 2020 · It’s towards the bottom of the graphics settings. Honestly you should turn off all the NVIDIA settings. They eat up far more usage than the slight improvements are worth. Adjusting my settings actually lowered my framerate (even when I lowered the settings) until I turned of raytracing, DLSS, and low latency.

So if you are playing at 4k with DLSS Quality then it is rendering the game at 1440p and upscaling to 4k. DLSS "Balanced" is two tiers down, so if you are playing at 4k then the game is rendering at 1080p and being upscaled to 4k.

Nov 17, 2022 · DLSS is a pretty cool technology, but other than for 4K where the performance boost might be needed, I'm not sure I see the point. Slightly lower image quality for a small performance boost when you can already hit capped FPS while barely turning down settings (at 1440) just doesn't appeal to me.

DLSS 1 used on previous games ran on tensor cores. I think DLSS "1.9" was initially supposed to be more of an internal tech demo for DLSS 2 that was given to Remedy to get Control ready for DLSS 2 for when it was done, but Remedy perhaps preferred how it looked over DLSS 1 in the game and Nvidia allowed them to use it at launch.
