It really is an incredible technology and can offer huge performance uplifts (+20-120%) by rendering the game at a lower internal resolution and then upscaling it. It does this while avoiding many of the problems that TAA usually exhibits like ghosting, smearing, and shimmering.

Nov 29, 2022 · It's no wonder that the default preset for DLSS is now the Performance preset, which is what Nvidia used for all its RTX 4090 demos. DLSS just looks so good there's no reason to run native any longer. Even if you're not getting any image quality improvements, at the very least, you'll still get energy, heat and noise improvements by enabling DLSS.

Obviously no traditional AA can make rendering actually faster, so the upscaling DLSS will always be faster. If you compare TAA to the DLSS AA method, there's probably not going to be a very big difference simply because both are pretty cheap. If you compare MSAA (x8/x16) to DLSS AA, DLSS is going to be a lot faster.

DLSS turns off TAA and doubles as an anti-aliasing method. Amusingly this is what AMD noticed with FSR. FSR was obviously not a DLSS competitor. It was designed to fix the blurry TAA and was repurposed once DLSS 2.0 dropped. Once DLSS 2.0 demonstrated how good it was AMD had to come up with an answer.

DLSS 2.0 explictly needs the game engine to use higher resolution textures internally. This is why the details in Control look so sharp. Does the resolution difference make a difference in texture quality than the texture setting in-game? I'm not sure why it'd be different from DLSS before. The supercomputer isnt really a big part of DLSS 2.0.

DLSS does exactly that - makes high contrast details better. So keeping source resolution at around 1080/1440p and upscaling to 4k gives you best of both worlds as vast majority of visual benefits you get from 4k comes from high contrast details with eyes unable to notice any difference in medium and low contrast areas.

Sep 9, 2023 · The built-in sharpening filter DLSS used to have is not very good, it was also disabled from DLSS v2.5.1 and up, so if you have replaced the DLL with v2.5.1 or higher, then the DLSS sharpening slider in game does nothing at all.
