Allow me to introduce you to the Pacific Lamprey, a jawless fish that is endemic to the rivers of the PNW. This fish lives as a filter feeder for a few years before heading out to sea. They spend roughly a year there sucking blood from marine animals and then stop eating as they pair up and spawn back up river.
