Pokeweed (Phytolacca americana) is hard to miss with its towering stalks, striking magenta stems, and clusters of deep purple berries. It’s beautiful. It’s also TOXIC ☠️And yet… for generations, it’s been foraged, cooked, and eaten—especially in Appalachia, the rural South, and among communities who had to turn adversity into sustenance.
