Created over 3400 years ago, this sphinx is attributed to the 18th Dynasty of the New Kingdom of Ancient Egypt during the joint reign of Hatshepsut and Thutmose III. It is made of limestone with plaster and is beleived to portray the queen as a sphinx. The head design, inspired by Middle Kingdom sphinx types, features only the human face surrounded by a lion’s mane.
